Digital Marketing Apprenticeship: Yellowphin Digital Agency

Hey, my name’s Megan – I am studying Digital Marketing and began my apprenticeship at Yellowphin Digital Agency in April 2019. Yellowphin are a full-service digital agency based in Blackpool. They offer web design, SEO and digital marketing services to businesses across the North West.

The Course

Since beginning my course, I’ve been learning about marketing principles including branding, customer personas and strategies. In my daily role, some of my tasks include: managing the company’s social media presence, creating client social media posts and adverts, and writing blog posts.

As a result, I’ve been learning to adapt my writing skills for businesses. This has involved keyword research, link building and content planning.

Being in an agency environment, it’s interesting to work with clients across different industries. I’ve had to research and learn about client’s industries so that I can write effective content.

We’ve been looking to boost Yellowphin’s social media presence, so I’ve been taking part in SEMrush’s weekly #SEMrush chat on Twitter. As well as improving engagement, I’ve been able to take part in discussions on a range of digital marketing topics and talk about them with the team. This week, we even appeared as a featured answer on the SEMrush blog!

Off the Job Learning

As part of my Off the Job learning, I’ve taken a wide range of online courses and training so far. These have included Facebook Blueprint and the Google Analytics Individual Qualification. Courses like these have enhanced my knowledge of the different platforms. For example, I’ve learned about creating Facebook audiences for targeting adverts and how the Facebook Pixel is used by Marketers.

Additionally, I’ve had one to one learning sessions with members of the team. This has complimented the material that I’ve been covering in monthly tutor sessions. It’s also a great way to get a real-life insight into the job roles in the agency. Our Digital Marketing Manager has shown me how she creates Facebook advertising campaigns for clients and which metrics she tracks.

Networking Opportunities

Outside of the office, I’ve had the opportunity to attend Pink Link networking events and the EVAS business awards. This has given me insight into different sides of the business. It’s also a great chance to make connections and meet other people in the industry. (And I even won on the raffle!)
